Brian Pope, Course Superintendent

• I was raised in Waynesboro, TN , a small town just east of the Tennessee River and just north of the Alabama state line.  I went to high school at Wayne County High, where my graduating class was a startling eight-two people.  I continued my education at The University of Tennessee at Martin where I received a Bachelor of Science in Turfgrass Management.  I graduated college in 1996 and was hired as an Assistant Superintendent at Stonebridge Golf Club in Lakeland, TN.  

• My wife, Nicki, and I were married shortly after my move to Memphis .  I was extremely lucky to find someone who tolerates the amount of time and pressure that this profession puts on me.  Nicki was lucky enough to find a home as a teacher at Briarcrest Christian School here in Memphis.  Our first daughter, Brianna, was born in May of 2000.  Our 2nd daughter, Addison, was born in May of 2004.  I am truly blessed to have the family that was bestowed upon me. 

• In 1998 I took a position as a 1st Assistant Superintendent at Cottonwoods Golf Club in Tunica Mississippi where I was employed until 2002.  My move to Memphis National was in August of 2002.  Memphis National was and is the greatest challenge that I have ever faced in the workforce. When I was hired I was actually very concerned that I wouldn’t be able make a difference.  I am lucky that a difference was made and is still being made.  Many different scenarios have occurred to make this the Club that it is.  I don’t dare take credit for the improvements, I am just grateful for the opportunity.

• I was raised in Brownsville, Tennessee , a small town between here and Jackson .  I graduated from Haywood High School .  My first year of college was at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN , where I was on the golf team.  I continued my education at The University of Tennessee-Martin and received a Bachelors of Science in Turf, Golf Course, and Landscape Management.

• I interned at Jackson Country Club in Jackson, TN and then worked for them for the following three years.  I then came to Memphis National and worked on the crew for the summer prior to graduating and upon graduating I took the Assistant Superintendent position.
